Here at LYQ we know first-hand the incredible impact of camps upon the lives of the young people in our church communities. Often, however, though we do as much as we can to keep costs down, many families find that covering the cost of these life-changing experiences can put some strain on the family budget. That’s why, when we heard of how the Dalby South West Parish was going above and beyond to help get their local kids along to camp, we couldn’t wait to share their story with you.
For the community in Dalby, the equation was simple…lower camp fees meant more kids on camp, and they wanted to get as many of their youth along to CLW as possible.
As Brian, chairman at St Mark’s Dalby and CLW dad noted, “It’s easy to see that the CLW experience energises their faith. They seem to become much more confident and open. Making connections with other young Christians is absolutely vital. Everyone needs to belong to a ‘tribe’…”
Dalby’s aim is to remove as many barriers to young people attending CLW as possible, and with one of the most significant barriers being financial, the church community banded together by asking for donations to subsidise the kids who’d expressed interest in attending CLW. Their generosity has extended to countless young people over the years, and with the encouragement of Dalby’s previous Pastor Stuart Kleinig and currentl Pastor Ron Buchold, the congregation has decided that every camper, leader or camp parent wanting to go to CLW would be fully subsidised every year.
"When people see a need or a benefit they will support it. Sometimes we are oversubscribed! …A big component of making it work is creating a culture in the church that values the youth.”
And at LYQ, we couldn’t agree more. Thank you, St Mark’s Dalby, for your generosity and for going above and beyond in investing in your young people for the church to come!
