LYQ STORY

Who we are

Lutheran Youth of Queensland exists to grow connected, hope-filled people.

Across Queensland, we run camps, events, leadership experiences, school partnerships, young adult ministry, volunteer pathways and support programs that help young people explore who they are, discover what they are capable of and thrive in community. We are proudly Christian and Lutheran, but our heart is simple: to create safe, welcoming, life-giving spaces where young people are known, encouraged, challenged and supported.

What we do

LYQ supports young people and the communities around them through three connected areas of ministry.

Camps & Events

Our camps and events give children and young people the chance to step away from everyday life, make new friends, try new things and grow in confidence. From Christian Life Week and Kids Camp to Blast-style adventure camps and seasonal events, LYQ camps are full of energy, care, faith, fun and belonging.

We believe leadership is teachable, relational and deeply connected to how young people understand themselves and their place in the world. Through school partnerships, workshops, leadership camps, conferences, mentoring and co-created learning experiences, LYQ helps young people explore leadership, discover new insights and thrive as people of purpose and influence.

Luther Heights

Luther Heights Youth Camp is an LYQ venue at Coolum Beach, providing a beautiful place for school camps, group retreats, leadership experiences and community gatherings. With accommodation, activities, food, natural surroundings and space to connect, Luther Heights helps groups create meaningful camp and retreat experiences in a setting shaped by hospitality, adventure and care.

That belief shapes everything we do — from how we train our leaders, to how we design programs, to how we welcome a first-time camper who does not know anyone yet.

OUR LEGACY

Our story

LYQ began with young people and continues to be shaped by young people. For generations, thousands of campers, leaders, families, schools, churches and supporters have helped build a movement of connection, service, faith and hope across Queensland.

70+ YEARS AGO

A vision began to take shape

A vision began to take shape: a place where young people could gather, grow, worship, play, serve and encounter God in community.

THE DISCOVERY OF LUTHER HEIGHTS

Luther Heights is discovered

Luther Heights was discovered and built through faith, sacrifice and vision. The site at Coolum became more than land and buildings — it became a place set apart for ministry, hospitality, formation and blessing.

FAITHFUL STEWARDSHIP

Generations of dedication

Many faithful people have stewarded the resources, served the ministry, cared for the site, led camps, cooked meals, prayed, gave financially, maintained buildings, welcomed guests and invested in future generations.

We believe God has consecrated Luther Heights and the ministry of LYQ to bless young people and communities across generations.
