Safety & Care

Safety and care are key focuses for our camps. On our LYQ Camps, we’ll be caring for campers by ensuring that;

  • Campers enjoy professionally catered meals so that food is yummy and meets any dietary needs.
  • Every leader has completed a stringent application and training process and has an active Blue Card (working with children check).

Every camp activity is risk assessed and managed.

Meet our Camp Directors!

Nadine Funke

G’day, my name’s Nadine!
I’ve been involved with CLW camps for 10 years and have enjoyed being a camper, leader and now director! My hope for camp this year is that everyone who comes will have a strong sense of belonging, will be challenged for personal and spiritual growth, maybe try some new things, and have stacks of fun (of course).

I’ve lived in the Darling Downs for 7 years, and attend St Mark’s Lutheran Church in Dalby. My favourite thing about my church is the amazing intergenerational relationships that exist. There’s always an older person to listen as you share about your day, who’ll invite you to their place for a delicious feed, and walk beside you on your faith and life journey.

When not on camp, I work as a remote area nurse- and I love it! My job’s taken me to some really cool spots, most recently Uluru and the ‘Red Centre’. During my free time, I enjoy all things outdoors (camping, hiking, mountain biking, swimming), getting my hands dirty with papier mache, and board games with friends. I’m also a big fan of the Bee Gees and black licorice; controversial, I know!

I look forward to meeting you all soon, learning more about each other, and exploring faith together.

Blessings,  Nadine

Matt Rentz

My name is Matt and as one of your Coolum A directors for 2025 I’m so glad to be back in this role to serve, lead and guide a team of leaders on a week-long camp for young people. I have lived in Brisbane my whole life and have been involved with LYQ camps in some capacity almost every year since 2010. Since January 2025 I’ve been attending Living Church in Carina. I am directing camp this year because I love creating a space for young people to experience genuine, hope-filled community that is shaped by Christ’s love.

I am a creative person by nature. I love problem solving, trying new recipes, navigating a new cycling route, setting personal objectives and recognising that healthy growth comes via taking a risk every now and then. Word play, puns, lame dad jokes, wit and sarcasm – you’ll find all these sprinkled throughout my conversations. The joy of reading allows my brain to frequently adopt new words into the available vocabulary. In my day job I work as a Platform Engineer for Suncorp. What does self-care look like? Bike riding 🚴 / cricket watching 🏏 / sci-fi shows ⭐️ / board games with friends 🎲 / taming the jungle (garden) 🌿 / reading 📖 / eating ice cream 🍧 / slowing down and prioritising genuine rest 🚶.

I can’t wait to spend a week at Coolum, growing in faith and curating shared experiences that prioritise relational wholeness.

 Regards,  Matt

LYQ Leaders – Volunteer with us!

We have an amazing bunch of leaders who volunteer their time to make sure that every camp is a bundle of fun and a great experience. All of our leaders complete an extensive application and training process prior to being selected.

To all of the amazing, kind, funny, and super talented leaders THANK YOU! Camp would not be what it is without you. The level of enthusiasm and care you all bring to camp, and the impact you have on the campers, cannot be under stated.

Are you interested in being a leader for this or another LYQ Camp? Put in your expression of interest here: my.lyq.org.au

“At times it’s easy to feel downcast, and no longer relevant to the modern age, but going on this camp, and realising the impact I still have on the youth of today’s life is exceptionally uplifting. LYQ Camps helped me remember that I have a purpose in helping young people know Jesus.”
